The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing process in West Bengal's Hooghly district faced disruption for the second consecutive day as Chinsurah MLA Asit Mazumdar intervened at the Polba Dadpur BDO office. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader had previously disrupted a similar hearing on Monday. Today, the MLA questioned the election officials regarding the mandatory presence of Booth Level Agents (BLA-2) during the verification process. When officials refused to provide a written commitment regarding the agents' role, the situation quickly escalated.
Mazumdar personally entered the hearing area and ordered an immediate halt to the proceedings, leading to a heated exchange with the presiding officers. He argued that the absence of party agents makes the process non-transparent and unfair to genuine voters. Following the MLA's lead, his supporters and several locals at the venue began shouting slogans in his favor, demanding that the hearing remain suspended until their demands were met.
The scene at the Polba Dadpur BDO office turned chaotic as hundreds of voters, who had traveled long distances for their hearings, were caught in the middle of the political standoff. Security personnel and senior administrative officials struggled to restore order as the sloganeering continued. The MLA maintained that his actions were aimed at protecting the voting rights of the people against what he termed as "administrative high-handedness."
